Contact names and photos. During onboarding, Dear asks for permission to access your Contacts. This is used solely to let you select people to add to your nudge list. Contact data is read once during selection and stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. Dear never transmits contact data off your device, and you can use the app without granting Contacts access by typing names manually.
Notification permissions. Dear requests permission to send local notifications so it can remind you to reach out to someone. These notifications are scheduled entirely on-device. No server is involved.
All data is stored locally on your iPhone using Apple's SwiftData framework and UserDefaults (via App Group for widget functionality). This includes:
This data never leaves your device. There is no cloud sync, no backup to our servers, and no way for us to access it.
None. Zero. Dear has no server, no backend, no API, no database, and no analytics. We do not use any third-party SDKs, tracking pixels, advertising frameworks, or analytics tools. We do not collect crash reports. We do not know how many people use the app beyond what Apple provides in aggregate App Store analytics (which contains no personally identifiable information and is controlled by your device settings).
Dear offers optional subscriptions and one-time purchases through Apple's StoreKit framework. All purchase transactions are handled entirely by Apple. We do not process, store, or have access to any payment information. Apple's privacy policy governs all payment data.
Dear uses no third-party services. The app operates entirely offline using Apple-native frameworks. StoreKit (for in-app purchases) communicates with Apple's servers, not ours.
We do not share data with anyone because we do not have any data to share.
Dear does not knowingly collect any information from children under the age of 13. Since the app collects no information from anyone, this is inherently satisfied.
If we ever change how Dear handles data (for example, adding optional cloud sync in a future version), we will update this policy and note the changes here. Any future feature that involves data transmission will be opt-in and clearly disclosed.
If you have questions about this privacy policy, you can reach us at support@dearnudges.com.
